British rider Sam Lowes is in his second WorldSBK campaign after moving to the Championship with the team he enjoyed so much Moto2™ success with. The #14, the twin brother of Alex Lowes, showed glimpses of potential in 2024 including leading in Barcelona, but several crashes and an injury-hit second half of the year impacted his results.
Ducati (2024-)
Lowes moved into WorldSBK for the 2024 season and was quick from the off despite learning Pirelli tyres and the Panigale V4 R. His best result in his rookie season was a sixth-place finish in Race 2 at Assen, though he led Race 1 in Barcelona before crashing out. It was a learning season for the Lincoln-born rider as he adapted from Moto2™.
WorldSSP
Lowes had three full seasons of WorldSSP action under his belt between 2011 and 2013, winning the title in his final year in the Championship before heading to the MotoGP™ paddock and Moto2™. Six wins from 12 races, and 11 podiums in total, helped him beat Kenan Sofuoglu to the title before he ventured out into the prototype paddock.
Before WorldSBK
Lowes’ time in his native Britain was successful, claiming the British Supersport title in 2010 before graduating to WorldSSP. After claiming the World Championship crown, he moved into Moto2™ for three seasons, taking three wins. His performances earned him a seat at Gresini-Aprilia for 2017 in MotoGP™ but it was a challenging season for the Brit and he returned to Moto2™ for 2018. In 2020, he linked up with the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team for the first time and he was a title contender in his first season with the team, finishing third, and claiming fourth in 2021. An injury-hit 2022 followed but he was back to winning ways in 2023, although couldn’t secure a top-ten Championship finish ahead of his move to WorldSBK.
